Most of us want to try and eat healthier. We are willing to sacrifice options that have more sugar or calories for those that are better for us. But let’s face it, some foods you thought were healthy actually aren’t very healthy. So we are here to tell you exactly what to swap out to make sure what you are consuming is more healthy and more natural.

Instead of having juice, try coconut water.

It may come as a surprise to some who are on a juicing kick, but juice is actually full of sugar. The reason that many people notice an increase in energy while juicing is that they experience a sugar rush. Juice not only has a lot of sugar, but it can often have a lot of calories. Coconut water is a better option as it has less sugar, fewer calories, can help you burn more fat, and is good for your heart! An even better alternative to drinking fruit juice is eating the actual fruit. Real fruit has fewer calories and more nutrients like anthocyanins and other phytochemicals.

Instead of having chips, try popcorn or nuts.

Don’t get us wrong, chips are crunchy and delicious but we also know that they are packed with calories, carbs, and stuff we don’t need. Swapping out chips for lightly salted popcorn or nuts is a great way to cut calories and reduce fat intake but still snack on a satisfying crunch.

Instead of having dairy milk, try unsweetened nut or soy milk.

Cow milk can also cause inflammation for many people but luckily there is a variety of milk options. We like raw cashew milk, unsweetened almond milk, and coconut milk.

Instead of having popsicles, try frozen grapes.

Popsicles are a tasty cold treat for summer. But they are typically loaded with lots of sugar and artificial flavors and colors. A great swap for popsicles is frozen grapes! Frozen grapes are tasty, cold, refreshing, and healthier. You can also try freezing any of your favorite fruit and eat it cold!

Instead of having cereal, try oatmeal.

We love a good bowl of cold cereal, but it isn’t the healthiest option with all the added sugar and sweeteners. The better option is oatmeal! Oatmeal is delicious and can be topped with natural sweet things like honey and fruit.

Instead of having butter, try avocado.

Butter makes almost anything delicious, but it also adds a lot of unnecessary fat to your diet. If you’ve had avocado toast before, you know that it is equally delicious as toast with butter! Spreading avocado onto your toast with a light sprinkle of salt and your favorite seasoning will make for a healthy snack or meal.

Instead of having a sandwich, try an open-faced sandwich or salad.

Sandwiches make for a great lunch but bread adds extra carbs and calories. Having an open-faced sandwich only uses one piece of bread and allows you to enjoy a sandwich with a few extra calories. Another great option is a salad. A salad can basically be a sandwich without the bread. A cobb salad usually has a variety of things like hard-boiled eggs, cheese, tomato, avocado, and meat like bacon or chicken. This gives you some things that you might put on a sandwich but cuts a lot of the carbs.

Making healthier decisions doesn’t have to be hard. There are plenty of simple changes you can make to your diet that are still delicious but cut out unnecessary calories or sugars.
